The Fabric of Time: Lines and Cycles, Alignment and Resistance

Introduction

Throughout history, humanity has sought to understand the nature of time and life. Time is often perceived as a straight line—a chronological timeline from beginning to end. Within this framework, a lifetime is but a segment of this line, stretching from birth to death. While intuitive, this linear perspective oversimplifies the deeper dimensions of time and existence. I invite you to reimagine time as more than a line, as a complex interplay of cycles, decisions, and truths that shape our reality.

Time as a Line

● The Perspective of Man: Imagine yourself standing on the bank of a river, observing the water flow from left to right. This perspective represents the linear view of life—a sequence of events from birth to death. It is a simple yet incomplete framework that reduces life to a linear progression that overlooks its complexity and multifaceted nature.

Time with Ups and Downs

● The Perspective of the Leaf: Now imagine yourself as a leaf, floating on that river. Suddenly, the journey is no longer a straightforward line. You feel the twists, turns, and currents of the water, representing the natural ups and downs that define existence. This
perspective reveals a richer, more dynamic experience of time.

● The Financial Market Chart Analogy: Much like a financial market chart, life is not a straight trajectory. It is marked by fluctuations—moments of joy, struggle, growth, and contraction. These ups and downs reflect the rhythm of existence

● Adding Inflation to the Chart: Consider the "inflation-adjusted" view of life. What may appear as horizontal fluctuations transforms into an upward diagonal trajectory. This illustrates a profound truth: life always trends upward. Just as truth cannot be undone, the progress of existence persists, even through temporary dips. Every decision point contributes to this overarching trajectory.

● The Ever-Upward Trajectory of Truth: Truth is not discovered in a singular moment but through bits and pieces over the course of a lifetime. Each fragment builds upon the last, creating a cumulative and unbreakable foundation. Once uncovered, these pieces of truth cannot be lost; they persist and compound, ensuring that existence continues its
upward trajectory. Once discovered, it shapes and transforms life’s trajectory, ensuring that, despite setbacks, the arc of existence bends toward growth.

Zooming Out: Time as a Cycle

● God’s Perspective: From a higher vantage point, the upward linear journey of life reveals itself first to have a curve, then zoom out even more as a cycle. Much like the water cycle—where rain nourishes the earth, flows into rivers, reaches the ocean, and evaporates—our lives are part of a greater loop. God sees the beginning and the end, and how all elements return to their source.

● The Circular Nature of Time: When we zoom out, the line connects to form a circle. Time is no longer merely linear but cyclical, where every beginning is an end, and every end is a new beginning.

● Cycles Within Cycles: These cycles exist on multiple levels. Each moment, day, year, and lifetime is part of a greater whole—a system of interconnected loops that influence one another.

Zooming Back Into the Line

● Points on the Line: Returning to the linear view, we see that life is marked by decision points. These are pivotal moments where choices shape the direction of the line.

● Natural Ups and Downs: The timeline of life inherently includes peaks and valleys. These fluctuations, while challenging, are integral to the rhythm of existence.

● Impact of Decision Points: Some decision points shift the trajectory dramatically, while others subtly adjust the flow. Together, they create a dynamic interplay between the natural rhythm of life and our individual choices.

Decision Points and Cycles

Decision points are not merely moments of choice but opportunities to break or reinforce cycles that influence our journey. These cycles may be habits, thought patterns, or external circumstances. A decision point can accelerate growth, disrupt an unhealthy cycle, or reaffirm alignment with a positive one. The speed and direction of change depend on our choices, making these moments both powerful and transformative. Momentum plays a critical role; resistance or alignment can become easier with repetition, either deepening cycles of disconnection or reinforcing growth toward truth.

What Are My Choices?

At every decision point, two fundamental paths emerge:

● Taking Control: This path involves attempting to dominate the flow of life, often driven by fear or ego. While it may offer a sense of control, it often creates unnecessary resistance.

● Letting Go: This path requires trust in the natural flow, a surrender to truth, and alignment with life’s rhythm. It invites harmony and a sense of peace, even amid uncertainty.

Going Deeper: Resistance and Alignment

● Resistance: Rooted in fear and mistrust, resistance is an attempt to fight the natural flow of life. It creates friction and prevents growth.

○ Christian Perspective: Resistance aligns with disobedience to God’s will, a rejection of divine guidance and the order of existence.

● Alignment: Alignment is the act of trusting life’s flow, surrendering control, and embracing truth. It reflects faith and harmony with the divine order.

○ Christian Perspective: Alignment represents surrendering to God’s plan, trusting in His guidance, and finding peace through faith.

Recognizing Resistance and Alignment

To discern between resistance and alignment, consider:

● Resistance Feels Like:
○ Tension and anxiety.
○ A compulsion to act out of fear.
○ A sense of pushing against an immovable force.

● Alignment Feels Like:
○ Peace and clarity, even in uncertainty.
○ Openness to possibilities.
○ A natural flow where things feel "right."

The Nature of Resistance and Alignment

Resistance and alignment are not always active actions; sometimes, they are passive. Choosing to act or choosing not to act can both represent resistance or alignment. Furthermore, resistance or alignment can be intertwined with things like comfort, blurring the lines between what feels right and what is truly aligned. The same action can represent resistance or alignment depending on the circumstances, the intention, and the divine truth it aligns with.

There is no universal action that guarantees alignment or resistance; everything depends on the source and intended cause and effect of the action. In the moment, alignment often "feels right," guided by intuition. However, even when actions do not benefit us immediately, they contribute to growth in the broader context of life’s trajectory.

The reality is that even incorrect actions lead back to truth, as the distance apart from it adds its own version of pressure, but the journey is momentum-based, introducing risks along the way. Depending on the heart’s posture, resistance can either guide one closer to truth or deepen cycles of misalignment, making future resistance more natural. Continuous resistance across the line and through decision points inevitably leads to disconnection from the divine and eventually to death

The Constant State of Alignment or Resistance

Alignment and resistance are not confined to decision points but persist between them. These
states influence the flow of life, shaping our trajectory even in the absence of active decisions.
Decision points, however, magnify the potential for change, offering us the opportunity to realign
with truth or perpetuate cycles.

Living with Trust in the Flow

Life’s line evolves with every step. Trust in its rhythm, even when it doesn’t align with your desires. Cherish the moments between decision points, as they prepare you for transformation. Remember, life’s cycles remind us of the infinite connection between all things.

Conclusion

When we zoom out, life reveals itself as a system of interconnected cycles within cycles. Decision points are not isolated; they are part of a greater rhythm, offering opportunities to break or reinforce cycles, shape trajectories, and embrace truth.

The journey of life is marked by natural ups and downs. These fluctuations are not hindrances but integral to existence, shaping us for what lies ahead. Yet, through it all, truth remains unwavering—always upward, always forward, always growing.

By understanding the interplay between the line and the cycle, you can harness the power of decision points to align with truth and growth. Trust the flow, honor the cycles, and walk with faith. Every step forward is both a continuation and a return, guided by the eternal upward trajectory of truth.
